We are a collective of 14 licensed community radio stations in Zimbabwe. Representing a rich diversity of local communities, we are a platform for “voices from the margins” to be heard. Our network of community radios is spread across the country, reaching both urban and rural areas, ensuring that a wide range of voices and perspectives have a platform to be heard.
Advancing and supporting community broadcasting is at the heart of what we do. We believe that community voices are invaluable in shaping the narrative of Zimbabwe, and we strive to provide a platform for these voices to express themselves. Our radio stations give a voice to the marginalized, the underrepresented, and the unheard, amplifying their stories, struggles, and successes.
Through their programming, our licensed members bring people together, foster dialogue, and promote understanding among different communities. They cover a wide range of topics, including local news, health, education, culture, and entertainment. From informative talk shows and panel discussions to music and entertainment programs, our radio stations offer a diverse range of content that caters to the interests and needs of our local communities.
In addition to broadcasting, we are committed to positioning community broadcasting as a tool that enhances democracy, media pluralism and plays a positive role in community development. We believe that community broadcasting is not just a means of communication but also a catalyst for social change and development.
We provide continuous support to community radios, providing thought leadership, and knowledge, organizing workshops, training programs, and outreach initiatives to help strengthen their institutional, operational, and broadcasting capacity. NACB develops best practice, standards, principles, and values for community broadcasters and fosters professionalism, peer accountability, and self-regulation among community broadcasters.
Ultimately, we strive to coordinate community broadcasters, unify their voice and represent their collective interests. To do that, we advocate for a conducive policy environment that enables community broadcasters to thrive and reach their full potential. Resilience building, growth, viability, and sustainability of community broadcasters for long-term impact is at the core of this pursuit.
