World Radio Day (WRD), celebrated annually on February 13, is a global event recognizing the power of radio as a platform for dialogue, inclusion, and community engagement. The National Association of Community Broadcasters (NACB) is committed to amplifying voices from the margins as promoted by community radio stations across Zimbabwe.
To mark WRD 2025, NACB is launching a Short Video Challenge to showcase the creativity, diversity, and impact of community radio presenters in addressing this yearโs theme of โ๐๐๐๐ข๐จ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ ๐๐ก๐๐ง๐ ๐โ.
Zimbabwe faces increasing climate change challenges, including extreme weather events, prolonged droughts, and unpredictable rainfall patterns. These environmental changes directly impact local communities, particularly those reliant on agriculture and natural resources.
Community radios play a critical role in bridging the information gap by disseminating timely climate-related updates, sharing adaptation strategies, and amplifying local voices on environmental justice. They serve as an essential platform for raising awareness, advocating for sustainable practices, and fostering community-led climate resilience initiatives. By highlighting the theme โRadio and Climate Change,โ this challenge will showcase how community broadcasters are engaging with their audiences to address one of the most pressing issues of our time.
This initiative will not only celebrate WRD 2025 but also reinforce the role of community radios in shaping narratives, engaging communities, and driving social change. NACB looks forward to vibrant participation and a successful celebration of community radioโs impact in Zimbabwe.
